Lodz Design Festival – General Information
Lodz Design Festival stands for ideas, people and action. Founded in 2007, it has served from the very beginning as a review of Polish design achievements. The thematic main programme consisting of curator exhibitions complemented and enhanced by an open and diverse repertoire of accompanying events is always at the core of Lodz Design Festival. The festival programme has continued to expand upon the ongoing dialogue with the audience, to finally assume its current shape. It now includes not only exhibitions but also the make me! competition for beginning designers, the must have project featuring the best Polish product implementations, lectures and presentations that serve as a source for mutual inspiration, and the educational space for children called Educreation.
Lodz Design Festival has grown to be one of the major design events in East-Central Europe. It presents different faces of design including industrial design, arts and crafts design, graphic design, architectural design, service design and fashion design. It brings people together who respond to challenges with an open mind and commitment, and who have the courage to design and make a difference.
Since its founding, the Festival has attracted more than 240,000 attendees from around the world.

– About organiser (doc)
The make me! competition is a key event of the Łódź Design Festival. Held since the second edition of the Festival, it is now one of the major international competitions for young designers. The competition is addressed to designers, makers, students and graduates, especially from art and design disciplines, who have just started their adventure with creating objects that have the potential to be implemented. In make me! works are evaluated in two stages, by a specially-selected jury with diversified interests. At first, we analyse the submissions and select the best 20 out of them to be displayed in the post-competition exhibition during the Festival. In the second stage, we examine the “real” pre selected prototypes and select the winner to receive the main prize of PLN 20,000.
The key purpose of the competition is to identify and support those young people who are ready to start and come up with interesting ideas. From our 6-year experience, we have learned that those who decided to present something more than just their semester project, or at least made an effort to develop it according to the competition requirements and were qualified to the final, admit that it paid off. All of them highlight the new opportunities opened to them: presence at additional exhibitions and mentions in publications. Consequently, they get better recognition and an easier start in the design community. So go to work and just make me!
