Lectures: Brave New Client, Design Alive Talks

Design Alive Talks
Date: 18 October 2014, 11am-2.30pm
Location: Conference Centre 1, 3 Tymienieckiego St., conference hall

Searching for ready solutions, timeless products, creative, following trends, luxurious, fixated on price, aesthetes, minimalists, hipsters, freedom lovers, family oriented, mobile, in transit, single, permanently online, active, passive - all sorts. That is US – clients from the X, Y and Z generations, constantly watched and researched; we shape the world of production. Our various needs are recognized and transformed into objects, services, applications – tons of novelties. How can we build a balanced relation between our needs and business goals of companies? How can we build a future in which we would maintain the harmony between consumption, freedom, development, ecological and economic order? What should businesses of the future be based on? What will be our role in their creation and development?

A series of Design Alive Talks lectures will be held under the auspices of Design Alive magazine. We invite charismatic personalities from the world of design, architecture and management to draw their image of a human being/client of the future. Who is he? What does he see? What does he feel? What does he think? What does he need? How does he operate?

We can see that working life is undergoing a big change; or rather, several big changes. In Kinnarps’ Trend Report, we will illustrate the changes that we consider to be particularly important for the workplace. The report deals  with important changes in the way we work, how we will meet each other and learn things in the future. We are convinced that the offices of tomorrow will look completely different to those we have today. The most important driving forces behind the changes are new  technology, new values, globalization and a shift to a thought economy.

Lecture in English

Carefully observing the changing habits of users and social behaviours, Edra is searching for a vision of comfort tailored to them and an optimal relationship between man and furniture. Our expectations and day-to-day needs are evolving – this opens up new opportunities, but also poses numerous challenges. The recipe of the Italian brand is simple: confidently look for new technologies in various fields, and translate the technical complexity into the simplicity of use and comfort. In addition, the manual work of experienced craftsmen and attention to detail – something that distinguishes unique products of the highest quality – are an indispensable component of every product made by Edra. Valerio Mazzei will talk about the constant search for new solutions, new materials and new possibilities.

Valerio Mazzei

For many years together with Edra’s art director Massimo Morozzi, a well-known architect and designer, they have been an exceptional and creative team which has been behind the success of this Italian brand. Starting with its debut in 1987, they have managed to not only create one of the most innovative and original furniture brands in the world, but also put together an exceptional team of co-workers, prominent personalities of the contemporary design, such as Francesco Binfarè, brothers Fernando and Humberto Campana, Masanori Umeda, Alessandro Mendini, Ross Lovegrove, Peter Traag, and Zaha Hadid.
