This year, some of the LDF 2014 events will be held in Festival Centre Two situated in the former weaving plant of Marcus Silberstein at 250, Piotrkowska St. (within 10 minutes’ walk of Festival Centre One). The building, designed by Adolf Zeligson, was erected in 1878, and it is considered to be one of the most interesting examples of industrial architecture in Lodz.
The House of Tomorrow is exhibition space in which the Partners display their interior furnishing products as well as the related services and time-honoured practical solutions. The exhibitions spaced over several thousand square metres will include: the must have exhibition showing the winning entries topped in the public voting for the best Polish implementations of applied solutions, the post-competition exhibition make me!, and a cross-sectional exhibition of Spanish designs including works by an outstanding artist Patricia Urquioli. Also, our visitors will have an opportunity to find out about innovative solutions, products from the future, and products whose design incorporates ecological issues, traditional forms and unprocessed materials.
The accompanying attractions will include: a café, and a Book-off Bookshop and Reading Room. The inspiration behind the layout created by the Oshi Design Studio is a construction site. The exhibitions are expected to be intertwined and interdependent in their nature. The architects are planning to use the simplest forms associating with a construction site, including: scaffoldings, construction safety netting, plywood boxes. What will be considered the leitmotif of the whole is an attempt at capturing the phases of the construction process of the house of tomorrow.
On the last Festival Sunday, the presentations will be accompanied by sales of the products on display. Those appreciating good design will have an opportunity to buy designer products at affordable prices. Festival Centre Two offers a car park for visitors (with the entrance in Sienkiewicza St.). Its building houses the Festival Bureau (the Information Desk), and a cloak room for visitors.
